What a general contractor does

A general contractor coordinates, manages, and is legally responsible for a construction project. In North Carolina, any project over $30,000 must be performed by a licensed GC — it’s state law, not just best practice.

We hold NCLBGC #87341. Here’s what that means in practice:

  • Permit management — We pull building, electrical, and plumbing permits and handle all municipal inspections
  • Trade coordination — On multi-trade projects, we schedule and supervise every phase so you don’t manage five separate contractors
  • Insurance and liability — Our general liability and workers’ compensation are current. Your homeowner’s insurance isn’t covering our crew — ours is.
  • Legal accountability — If something goes wrong, you have a licensed entity to hold accountable through the NC Licensing Board

When you need a GC

  • Any residential project over $30,000 (NC law)
  • Projects requiring multiple permits (building + electrical + plumbing)
  • Additions, major renovations, structural changes
  • Commercial tenant build-outs and office renovations
  • Any project where you want one point of contact managing the entire scope

Our advantage: three licenses, one company

Most general contractors sub out electrical and plumbing to whoever’s available that week. We hold all three licenses — GC, Electrical, and Plumbing — under Peri Remodel. That means fewer scheduling gaps, cleaner coordination, and a single company accountable for every trade on your project.

Frequently asked questions

In North Carolina, any project costing $30,000 or more requires a licensed general contractor. Even below that threshold, a GC ensures permits are pulled correctly, inspections pass, and all trades are coordinated under one accountable party.
We hold a North Carolina General Contractor license (NCLBGC #87341). You can verify our license, its status, and any complaints on the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors website.
Yes — we hold NC Electrical #28-LA-9214 and NC Plumbing #P1-22847 in addition to our GC license. This means we self-perform electrical and plumbing rather than subcontracting, which reduces scheduling gaps and puts accountability under one roof.
